TRAC South Africa
Visiting a Science, Mathematics, and Technology Program
This morning we went to visit TRAC- a non-profit program throughout South Africa that supports physical science, math, and technology in South Africa's secondary schools. We watched a class in the lab working with sensor equipment to analyze acceleration graphs. The students were as interested in us as we were in them and we had a wonderful opportunity to aobserve and ask them questions. When I asked the girls how many wanted to be engineers, they nodded enthusiastically. The program really encourages students to be creative, enjoy math and science, and solve relevant problems. What impresses me most about the students in South Africa is how serously they take they education and how much they value it. The TRAC program is quite impressive in bringing these opportunities to disadvantaged students.
